Chamberlain left frustrated by not being offered new deal

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is frustrated after the North London club have failed to open negotiations with him regarding a new contract at the club, according to a report by the Telegraph.

The Englishman only has one year remaining on his current deal with the club and has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer, with Premier League rivals Liverpool interested in securing his signature.

The Gunners held positive talks about a new contract with Chamberlain at the end of the season but after the midfielder went on holiday, talks have slowed down with the club making no new contact with the player about a new and improved deal.

Chamberlain was expecting to be offered a £100,000-a-week deal before the season starts but no advances have been made.

Chamberlain was used by manager Arsene Wenger as a wing-back in the new formation that he adopted but the player himself prefers a central midfield role, a position which is very strong and deep in the Arsenal squad.

Liverpool could do with Chamberlain in the middle of the park after giving up on signing RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita this summer and Chamberlain would be a good fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Chamberlain wants regular football so he has a good chance of being selected in the England squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
