Watford have given up on their attempts to sign Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal due to costs.
According to the Daily Mail, Watford have been put off by Arsenal’s £16m valuation of the left-back.
Marco Silva joined Watford as manager from relegated Hull City this summer and had already identified left-back as a weak spot and wanted to add the England international to his side.
The report claims that Arsenal want £16m for the 27-year-old but Watford are not prepared to go that high, with the Gunners unwilling to reduce their asking price.
Stoke and Brighton are also holding tentative interest – with neither side willing to pay £16m.
Gibbs started eight Premier League games last season but his chances appear to be more limited by the arrival of Sead Kolisinac from Schalke.
Watford could now turn their attentions to Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno, who has been linked with a move away.
