Wenger reaffirms Sanchez position

Arsenal have reaffirmed their position on the Alexis Sanchez situation, and are adamant that he won’t be sold to Manchester City this summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News today, has insisted that he is not looking to offload his key players and therefore Sanchez is set to remain at the Emirates Stadium.

When asked whether or not Sanchez is committed to life at Arsenal still, he replied:

Of course. Why not? My conviction – and if you look well – it’s always in your interests, even if you have a short contract, to do well. And the kind of character he is.

He is a winner. When he goes on the football pitch, he wants to win. He is a guy who loves football. He has advantages and disadvantages on both sides going into a situation like that.

The Chilean international made his return to full training with the Arsenal squad only this week, off the back of a considerably successful Confederations Cup with his country.

Sanchez was incredible for Arsenal last season and with one year remaining on his current deal at the club, Wenger is keen to keep his key man in North London for the foreseeable future.

However, amid interest from former manager Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, it looks as though the versatile forward’s head has been turned, and he is keen to leave the club this summer.
