# Wenger relaxed about ‘ideal’ contract situations

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is calm about the ongoing contractual disagreements with key players Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Both players are able to leave the club next summer on a free transfer if they are not sold in this window or, of course, they sign a new deal at the Emirates.

However Wenger, who addressed the media after his side won the Emirates Cup this afternoon, stated that it is the ‘ideal’ situation to be in.

Wenger, as quoted by the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/07/30/mesut-ozil-likely-leave-arsenal-free-next-summer-says-arsene/), said this:

> I think it’s an ideal situation. Because everyone has to perform. The transfers are so high even for normal players, you will see more and more players going into the final year of the contract because no club will want to pay the amount demanded. I’m convinced in the next ten years it will become usual.

> When you’re a football player you perform until the last day of your contract. Whether you have two or one year left it doesn’t change. You want to play and do well. Do you really think they sit in the dressing room and think, ‘Oh, I have one year to go I will not play well today’. Where does that come from?

> When you are a football player you want to play well, what does that have to do with the length of your contract. It’s amazing.

The Gunners look to be at serious risk of losing Ozil and Sanchez in the near future because of their contract situations, and it looks as though the latter is in high demand this summer.

Manchester City, Bayern Munich and PSG have all been linked with moves for Sanchez in recent times, and the Gunners may be tempted to sell for fees of around £50 million and upwards, despite Wenger’s wishes.
