Roma likely to end interest in Arsenal target Riyad Mahrez

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, as Roma appear to be ending their interest.

The Evening Standard reports that the Italian club will not make a third bid for the player and will begin to look for alternative transfer targets.

Roma have already failed with two bids thought to be worth around £27 million for the Algerian, but the club’s director of football Monchi has confirmed they will begin look elsewhere.

In the case of Mahrez, it’s become public knowledge, with others it hasn’t. We’ve made two offers, the second is fair and then we stopped.

Arsenal have been extensively linked with the player since the Foxes lifted the Premier League trophy.

Leicester are thought to be demanding somewhere close to £50 million for the player, who scored six league goals last season.

Mahrez now looks set to leave Leicester this summer and Arsenal could be in the market for a winger with Alexis Sanchez likely to leave the Emirates.

Manchester City are leading the race to sign Sanchez from Arsenal this summer, despite Arsene Wenger reaffirming his belief that the Chilean will stay with the Gunners this summer.
