Arsenal clinched an important victory against Manchester United yesterday, helping them in their pursuit of a late top four push.
The Gunners headed into the game with optimism, knowing fully well that they needed to avoid defeat in order to keep their chances of Champions League football next season alive.
Jose Mourinho set his United side out far differently to how he did last week against Celta Vigo in the Europa League, and his decisions were costly as the Gunners produced a solid display to see the Red Devils come away with nothing to show for their efforts.
It was a game that somewhat lacked intensity but the deadlock was broken not long after the restart, with Granit Xhaka’s deflected shot looping over David De Gea to make it 1-0 to the hosts.
The game was sealed by Danny Welbeck just a few minutes later as he powered home a header against his former side, and that would be that.
Here are our match ratings from Arsenal’s important win.
