Arsenal to consider Overmars as new director of football

Arsenal are aiming to appoint former forward Marc Overmars as their first ever director of football, according to the Daily Mail.

Overmars, who spent three years at Arsene Wenger’s Gunners, is currently Ajax’s director and it is reported that Arsenal chiefs are looking for a candidate to oversee transfers and the club’s footballing ethos.

However, the manager may not be pleased at these latest revelations.

Wenger, who has seen his predicament at the club under intense scrutiny after some dire performances, could potentially be working under a director of football next season.

The Frenchman has had the final say on transfers during his 21-year reign at the Gunners, but the Daily Mail understand that the Dutchman is currently somebody who has impressed those higher up at the club.

The forward joined the North London outfit back in June 1997 – and won the Premier League, FA Cup and Charity Shield in his career under Wenger before moving to Barcelona in July 2000.

The rumour mill has also implied that Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has impressed the Arsenal hierarchy.
