Mesut Ozil’s future remains very much up in the air and Arsenal cannot afford to rest on their laurels when it comes to drawing up contingency plans for if the German leaves the club.
Providing the attacking midfielder doesn’t have a change of heart and sign a long-term extension at the Emirates, it’s likely that Arsenal will be forced to sell Ozil this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
If he does leave, then the Times claim that the Gunners are readying a move for Barcelona midfielder, Arda Turan to replace the club-record £42.5m signing from Real Madrid.
The 30-year-old Turk joined Barcelona two years ago from Atletico Madrid in a £26m deal but isn’t always a regular in the side given the wealth of talent Barcelona and Luis Enrique has at his disposal.
Arsenal are reportedly willing to pay £25m to bring Turan to north London in the summer and help fill the potential void that Ozil’s departure will create.
