With Arsene Wenger’s future very much up in the air at the moment, a number of Arsenal players are waiting for the manager to make his decision on his future before they commit theirs.
Namely, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, both of whom have less than 18 months to run on their current contracts are waiting to see what the manager does before penning long-term extensions.
However, the unlikely name cropping up is Hector Bellerin, with the Guardian reporting that the Spaniard will be open to a shock return to Barcelona if Wenger leaves the club at the end of the season.
Wenger signed Bellerin from the Barcelona academy in July 2011 and the 21-year-old has bided his time and developed into one of Europe’s best young fullbacks under his tutelage and is one of the first names on the team-sheet every week.
Amid speculation that Barcelona wanted to re-sign Bellerin, the Gunners were quick to tie him down to a new six-and-a-half-year contract which runs until the end of the 2022/23 season.
However, if Wenger decides to call time on his 21-year Arsenal tenure then Bellerin will reconsider his own future at the club and will be more open to a return to La Liga.
