Arsenal will need to pull off something special at home if they want to avoid yet another last 16 Champions League exit after they lost 5-1 at the Allianz Arena

Bayern deservedly took the lead in the 11th minute when Arjen Robben cut inside and curled a wonderful effort past David Ospina.

The Gunners were second best at that point but were level after half an hour. Laurent Koscielny did well to anticipate in the box, getting in front of Robert Lewandowski and winning a penalty.

Alexis Sanchez missed the spot kick but finished beautifully after a scrambled rebound.

Things looked to be going ok but things crumbled when captain Koscielny went off injured and the hosts scored three times in ten minutes and if not for some good goalkeeping and defending, it could have been even worse.

Thomas Muller’s late goal was an absolute dagger when he made it five after Bayern capitalised on an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain error.
