A late, late winner by Olivier Giroud was enough to send Arsenal through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after they were pushed to the very end by a spirited Preston North End.
Arsene Wenger picked a pretty experienced side for the trip to Deepdale but saw his team go behind in the first half when Callum Robinson scored for the hosts.
In truth, 1-0 flattered Arsenal and but for a bit of luck, they could have been down two or three at the break.
The Gunners regrouped at half-time and were level less than 60 seconds after the restart thanks to Aaron Ramsey.
The game looked to be heading for a replay until Giroud’s deflected effort beat Chris Maxwell.
