Contracts for Ozil, Sanchez “looking pretty good”

New long-term contracts for Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are “looking pretty good” according to club general secretary David Miles.

Arsenal sit just three points off leaders Chelsea in the Premier League and haven’t lost since the opening day of the season.

Their fine form of late is largely down to the impressive performances of Ozil and Sanchez who are both arguably playing the best football of their Arsenal careers to date.

Ozil joined the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013 for £42.5m, signing a five-year contract and has scored 29 goals and recorded 49 assists in 137 appearances since, with nine goals and six assists so far this term.

A year later in 2014, Sanchez left Barcelona for Arsenal in a £36m deal, signing a four-year contract. In 114 appearances for the club, the Chilean has netted on 55 occasions whilst assisting 34 times. He is also Arsenal’s leading scorer this season with 13 goals, 11 of which coming in the Premier League.

It’s well-documented that both players’ deals are set to expire in the summer of 2018. Talks are underway to get both players tied down to long-term extensions and club general secretary David Miles says that it’s looking good that they’ll sign new contracts.

He told BT Sport: “Of course, we know talks are ongoing with certain players and certain contracts. At the moment, things are looking pretty good in that way.”
