Arsenal consider contract offer for Isco

Both Chelsea and Arsenal are believed to be preparing contract offers for Real Madrid midfielder Isco, according to Spanish source Diario Gol.

Isco’s contract is up at the end of the season, meaning foreign clubs can open talks with him and his representatives over a free transfer move in the summer, signing a pre-contract deal in the process.

In the summer of 2013, Isco was one of the most sought-after players in European football after breaking out during a two-year spell with Malaga where he scored 17 goals and recorded 12 assists.

There was interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City at the time but it was Real Madrid who won the race for Isco, signing him in a £25m deal.

Since then, Isco has been vying for minutes with the likes of Luka Modric, James Rodriguez and Mateo Kovacic in midfield and he hasn’t always been a first-team regular.

With his contract up in the summer, both Chelsea and Arsenal are looking to snag possibly one of the best free transfers in history if they can agree terms with Isco over a summer Bosman move.

Real Madrid remain interested in keeping the Spanish international but should Arsenal be able to offer regular games that could be enough to persuade him to join.

Isco’s hypothetical arrival could spell the end for the likes of Jack Wilshere at the club, with another midfield body to compete with it seems unlikely he’d get a look-in.
