After a convincing win against Bournemouth on Sunday, Arsenal go into a midweek EFL Cup quarterfinal match at home against Southampton with something to build on.
Though the lineup for the game on Wednesday will most likely look much different compared to the one chosen by Arsene Wenger on Sunday, the message will be the same: win.
Arsenal’s young players have flourished in the EFL Cup so far this season, compared to years past when the club has been knocked out of the competition early.
Players like Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Rob Holding have played well, and good performances in these matches could lead to first team breakthroughs for these young men.
The EFL Cup has never been Arsene Wenger’s favorite competition, so the likes of Mesut Özil, Alexis Sanchez, and Laurent Koscielny to be given a rest.
For Gooners, domestic cup matches are great opportunities to get a view of the club’s future, and this quarterfinal should be no exception.
Here is the predicted starting XI for the midweek match.
