According to Spanish source Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Hector Bellerin is poised to sign a new contract with Arsenal in the near future.
Sport, who have close ties to Barcelona, the club where Bellerin began his career before leaving for Arsenal as a teenager and are reportedly keen on bringing him back to the Nou Camp, state that the Spaniard will pen an extension in the next two weeks.
Barcelona have been disappointed with the impact Aleix Vidal has had since his arrival from Sevilla and are eager to replace him and have even sent scouts to England of late to watch Southampton and Portugal star, Cedric Soares.
This comes after they received ‘direct information Arsenal will renew his [Bellerin’s] contract in one to two weeks’ and that Barcelona have ‘practically removed him’ from their shortlist of right-back targets.
In recent years, Bellerin has become a leading fullback in the Premier League and has broken into the national team set-up, making him a prime candidate for Barcelona but it appears their efforts will ultimately prove fruitless.
