Arsenal scouts were in attendance at the Stade Velodrome for Lyon’s 0-0 draw with Bordeaux last weekend, with eyes on highly-rated teenager Maxime Lopez.
According to besoccer, there were dozens of scouts in attendance from around Europe, most notably from Arsenal and Liverpool, who witnessed Lopez’s full Ligue 1 debut after making three substitute cameo appearances earlier in the season.
On the night, Lopez stole the show, making 110 passes and was the most influential and creative player for Marseille but was unable to break the deadlock.
The skilful attacking midfielder also showed off his flair and confidence on the ball, something we’re not used to seeing from an 18-year-old making their debut.
Should Lopez continue to impress over the next two months, Marseille could be fielding some offers from some of Europe’s top clubs and seeing as his contract is up at the end of the season, foreign sides can begin negotiating pre-contract agreements as well.
