According to Italian source Calciomercato, Arsenal tried and failed with a summer move to sign highly-rated AC Milan midfielder Manuel Locatelli.
The 18-year-old made his first-team debut for Milan last season but has really made a big impact in the side this term, scoring with each of his first two shots in Serie A this season.
Arsenal chief scout Neil Banfield is said to have scouted the youngster several times last season and the Gunners subsequently made an offer that AC Milan wasted no time in rejecting.

Having only recently signed his first professional contract, Milan could be ready to hand Locatelli improved terms if he continues to make a strong impact in the first-team in Serie A.
The Italian U19 international is tied down to the San Siro until 2020 so the Gunners might have to make a large offer if they hope to lure Locatelli away from the club that consider him as bright a prospect as young goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
