Amidst speculation of a departure for Arsenal fullback Hector Bellerin, manager Arsene Wenger has attempted to settle worried fans by suggesting the Spaniard will be offered a new contract, as per Metro.
With consistent performances at a high level, the regular sharks are circling for Bellerin, a player that was in Barcelona’s youth system before Arsenal put pen to paper in 2011. Rumours of a return to Catalonia have naturally, always been on the cards. However, it appears that Pep Guardiola has entered the race for Bellerin, who was already under his jurisdiction back in Barcelona all those years ago.
Wenger has only spoken highly of Bellerin: “We will try to extend his contract, his long-term future is here. He has been absolutely fantastic.”
Arguably the fastest player in the Premier League, his speed gets Arsenal out of trouble at times with long distance covering tackles. He is an integral part of a defence that has kept three clean sheets in the league this season and going forward is what makes him a true asset, operating as a winger almost. His assist for Theo Walcott in the 3-0 drubbing of Chelsea demonstrated astute technique and acute vision in what was a world class move.
All Arsenal fans will be hoping Bellerin signs a new deal as he is destined for great things.
