Three Stars of the Match: Hull City 1-4 Arsenal

Arsenal left it rather late to kill off Hull City, but the icing was put on the cake in style by Granit Xhaka. The first goal came rather early, as Alex Iwobi’s shot was deflected past Hull ‘keeper Eldin Jakupovic to take a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. The game got rather chippy after that, with Hull going down to ten men after 40 minutes, with Jake Livermore getting sent off for a handball right in front of goal and Santi Cazorla almost picking up two yellow cards.

Naturally, Alexis Sanchez missed the ensuing penalty, but he more than made up for it by extending Arsenal’s lead to 3-1 in the last ten minutes of the match. Theo Walcott made the best of a beautiful pass from Alex Iwobi to bring the Gunners to a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute, but Robert Snodgrass took advantage of a rash challenge by Petr Cech to score a penalty in the 79th minute, cutting the Gunners lead in half.

Alexis’ 83rd minute goal dug the grave for the hosts, and Granit Xhaka’s stoppage time screamer from outside of the box was the nail in the coffin. After a great display from the north London club, let’s see who the three stars of Saturday’s match were.
