Arsenal hosted Southampton on Saturday afternoon as the Premier League returned to action following the international break.
Both teams went into the game after a stuttering start to the season. Arsenal had beaten Watford before the break, while Southampton came off another draw.
New boys, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez both made their debuts, while Granit Xhaka was dropped to the bench for Coquelin.
In what was a grey and cloudy day, the game wasn’t much different. Initially Arsenal looked hesitant and indecisive. Southampton looked comfortable and looked solid against Arsenal’s attacks. After a rash challenge from Monreal – although there was minor contact – Tadic scored from the subsequent freekick. It didn’t take too long for Arsenal to respond, as Koscielny scored from a corner.
The second-half followed in much the same vein as the first, as Arsenal struggled to muster any real attacks. As the game drew to a close, Arsenal were awarded a penalty which Cazorla scored from.
So lets look at how the players got on.
