Gabriel stretchered off with knee injury vs. Man City

Arsenal have suffered yet another injury blow this pre-season, as Gabriel goes down with what looks like a severe knee injury and was stretchered off against Manchester City.

The Brazilian defender when to contest a ball with City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, caught his studs in the ground and twisted his ankle, falling to the floor in a heap writhing in pain.

Gabriel was seen visibly upset on the ground and after a few minutes of medical attention he was stretchered off.

With what looks like a long-term injury, Gabriel joins Per Mertesacker on the injury table for Arsenal with the German set to miss the next four months of action.

Laurent Koscielny will also miss the first few games of the Premier League season after being handed an extended lay-off after Euro 2016, but if Gabriel is out for a long time he could be rushed back into action sooner rather than later.

After the game, Wenger confirmed that it’s only an ankle sprain for Gabriel, but he won’t be fit for the Liverpool game.

Arsenal are just left with Calum Chambers and summer signing Rob Holding as the recognized centre-backs in the squad, with Krystian Bielik the likely back-up.
