Arsenal traveled to northern France to finally begin their pre-season schedule on Friday evening. The friendly against Lens was Arsenal’s first before they travel to America and Scandinavia.
The pre-season is a time where fans get to see new signings and debate how their team will perform in the season ahead. Unfortunately for Arsenal fans, no new signings were present for tonight’s game, but youngsters, Chuba Akpom and Jeff Reine-Adelaide were available to play.
The first-half was a scrappy game with both teams having a couple of chances, but it was Lens who scored first after a poor header from Calum Chambers.
The second-half was much better for Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger made a raft of changes, as the substitutes made a substantial effect on the game. Arsenal looked quicker, sharper and more dangerous going forward. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain eventually leveled the scores with an excellent chip over the goalkeeper.
A draw was a fair result.
