Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is set for a surprise Arsenal return after spending the 2015/16 season on loan to Serie A side, AS Roma.
Originally set to stay at the Italian club after a successful season as the first-choice goalkeeper, talks over a permanent deal have broken down after several issues were not mutually agreed, according to The Guardian.
The goalkeeper is currently at the European Championships in France having regained his starting place from Lukasz Fabianski, although an injury in the opening game meant he had to sit out the Germany match. This is following a season where Szczesny made 42 appearances for Roma, including eight in the Champions league, keeping nine clean sheets overall – according to transfermrkt.

After the smoking debacle at St Marys in January 2015, the 26-year-old lost his place to David Ospina for the rest of the season. Petr Cech’s arrival then resulted in a further shift down the pecking order and a subsequent loan to Roma. Szczesny himself has distanced himself from such negotiations.
Arsenal and Roma are talking but I don’t want to worry about it now. Whether I’m an Arsenal player or a Roma player right now, it makes no difference to me. I want to focus on this tournament.
