Nacho Monreal has arguably been one of Arsenal’s most consistent players this season. The Spanish left-back, however has now reached the dreaded age of 30 – entering the latter stage of his career.
In recent weeks, Arsenal have been linked with two young left-backs, Kieran Tierney of Celtic and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.
However, Arsenal have now reportedly switched their attention to Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez, according to German publication Kicker.

Rodriguez has been regarded as one of the better left backs in the Bundesliga, and Europe in the last few seasons. The Swiss international is reported to have a release clause of £19 million in his contract and it is reported that Arsenal will trigger this release clause.
Rodriguez joined Wolfsburg from Zurich in 2012 and has since become a standout performer for the German club, whilst also cementing his place in the Swiss international team.

Although Nacho Monreal is Arsenal’s current starter, Kieran Gibbs’ future at the club is uncertain. The English full-back struggled to gain much game time last season and is unlikely to overtake Monreal in the pecking order.
At only 23-years-old and with a relatively inexpensive release clause fee, Arsenal might be wise to sign a full-back who could contend and eventually take Monreal’s place.
