Barcelona eyeing Bellerin return

Following an outstanding season by establishing himself as Arsenal’s first choice right-back, Hector Bellerín was always going to attract interest. According to the Daily Mail (via Mundo Deportivo) should Dani Alves depart the Nou Camp, Barcelona will step up their pursuit of the 21-year-old.

The young Spaniard’s ventures culminated in selection for the ‘PFA Premier League Team of the Year’ and Bellerín was unlucky to miss out on a place in Vicente del Bosque’s squad for the European Championships, amid stiff competition from Juanfran, Azpilicueta and Dani Carvajal.

Posing an attacking threat with pace and agility as well as growing signs of a defensive mind, Bellerín would suit the style of play of Luis Enrique’s men. Due to his Barcelona background and attacking threat, he would appear a like-for-like replacement for the reportedly Juventus bound Alves.

Arsenal fans know better than most that Barcelona like to reclaim their old gems and should Bellerín return to his hometown, a replacement of a similar ilk and quality would prove difficult to find. Arsène Wenger needs to keep the young full-back as he is fast becoming one of the best fullbacks in the League.

The best right-back in the Premier League last season, Bellerín has restored a calming presence to the Arsenal back four. If he were to leave, it would suggest a step backwards in a transfer window that has already seen the arrival of Granit Xhaka.
