Although Leicester City were anointed champions and Norwich, Aston Villa and Newcastle were all officially relegated, Arsenal went into the final game with the possibility of finishing second – ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal welcomed both Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla back to the starting eleven, in what was a very strong team. Initially in the first-half it look as though Arsenal were going to have an easy day. After great build up play, Olivier Giroud nodded in the first goal of the game.
Following that, Villa seemed to grow into the game, while Arsenal were sloppy and guilty of overplaying in the final third.
In the second-half Arsenal started the much like they finished the first. As the half went on, news filtered through that Tottenham were losing, which in turn woke up the Arsenal players.
Giroud, sealed the points for the Gunnrs as the French striker scored a quick fire hat trick. Arteta finished the scoring off, albeit more an own goal.
With this considered, let’s see how the players got on.
