After years of balancing the books and while losing our best players, Arsenal made a huge splash in the transfer market, with the marquee signing of Mesut Ozil in 2013.
The German star, became Arsenal’s record signing, but also the highest player at the club with a £140,000 a week deal. Since then, the talented playmaker has often been criticized for his performances. This year, however, we have seen Ozil have his best season in Arsenal shirt, recording 18 assists and scoring six goals in the League, as per Squawka.
With Arsenal at risk of possibly losing their other star man, Alexis Sanchez, Wenger has made it a priority to keep Mesut Ozil at the club. It has been reported via the Mirror, that Arsenal will offer Ozil a new £200,000 a week deal.
Ozil currently has two years left on his current, £140,000 week deal, and it is reported that combined with add ons, he will become Arsenal’s first £200,000 a week player, and still their best-paid player.
Both Sanchez and Ozil have both become unhappy with the lack of progression and ambition of the club. While Ozil seems more likely to sign a new deal, the apparent imminent signing of Granit Xhaka may also go some way to tying down Sanchez to a new deal too.
