After returning in February from a long-term injury, Danny Welbeck had been a much-needed boost for a an Arsenal team faltering and struggling for goals. Although he only scored four goals in the League – including a seemingly crucial header against Leicester City – Welbeck’s energy, pace and work rate were a welcome change for the Gunners.
At the weekend however, the England international was forced to come off after seemingly picking up a knee injury.

Today, however, Arsenal.com has confirmed that the England international will be out for approximately nine months. Following serious cartilage damage doctors determined that a knee operation was essential.
The England international will now miss out on the European Championships, but also a large part of next season. Although with Welbeck’s return, Arsenal finally had another striker to call upon, many fans have argued that Arsenal still needed another forward to contend for the title.
Pressure has been placed on Wenger to address this issue in the summer, and it now seems imperative that he does this summer. Furthermore, Welbeck’s injury could have an effect on the possible transfer of Theo Walcott to West Ham.
Either way, this is terrible news for Arsenal, but more importantly Danny Welbeck.
