After another disappointing season for Arsene Wenger and his team, it’s time to start looking towards the transfer market and re-assessing the squad for next season.
The most important area that needs addressing is the striker role. At the moment, Wenger has Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck at his disposal but the former’s form since Christmas has been extremely poor, having completed a 15 game goal drought in the League. Welbeck has spent most of the season injured but on the occasions he has played, he has displayed his quality, although, with the number of chances he has been given, he should have scored more goals.
Goals have been an issue since Christmas but so has the defence, with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista not looking particularly assured in their positions. Wenger must look into signing a new defender who can fill in the whole in defence next to Koscielny.
These two areas are where Wenger must focus his efforts. The Frenchman has been criticized for his reluctance to spend money in transfer windows in the past few season. This summer could be massive for the manager, as another poor season like this one just gone, could spell the end for the current longest-serving manager in the Premier League.
However, with new players possibly on the way in, there will inevitably be some players on their way out of the club. There are a number of ageing players as well as those who simply don’t make the cut.
So which five players should leave the club, and who should Arsenal replace them with?
