Arsenal took on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon looking to regain third place in the Premier League after Manchester City took apart Stoke City at the Etihad.
The north London side began the game with Per Mertesacker at the heart of the defence alongside Laurent Koscielny, while Aaron Ramsey was preferred to Francis Coquelin in midfield and Olivier Giroud was given the nod ahead of Danny Welbeck, despite playing on Thursday night against West Bromwich Albion.
A tricky Sunderland side gave as much as they took in the first half, with Patrick van Aanholt’s effort from a free-kick rattling the corner of the crossbar as well as having a possible penalty shout after Mertesacker handled in the area.
Alexis Sanchez had a free-kick well saved by Arsenal old boy Vito Mannone while Alex Iwobi constantly threatened but there was no breakthrough in the first period, with the scores level at the break.
The second half was a tight affair which Sunderland arguably edged, with the scores ending 0-0.
Check out how the players rated on a disappointing afternoon.
