Arsenal have joined the race to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to Spanish news outlet AS.
The 21-year-old has been in impressive form for Atletico in the bit-part role he has featured in this season, scoring seven goals from his midfield position and bagging two assists.
Manchester United have also expressed an interest in the Spaniard recently, who has a release clause upwards of £34.7m, meaning that he would become the Gunners’ third most expensive player of all time, should they decide to cash in on the player.
Saul has been described as one of the ‘hottest talents’ in European football and would challenge the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla for a midfield position.
Despite the January signing of Mohamed Elneny, with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all expected to leave the club in the summer, a move for the Atletico man could be viable.
