Guardiola eyes coaching role for Arteta at City

Pep Guardiola is considering making an offer for Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta to join him at Manchester City next season.

The Gunners captain’s contract is due to expire in June, with Arsene Wenger unlikely to extend his deal after an unconvincing season in which he has spent the majority of it on the sidelines.

With Guardiola joining City as boss next campaign, the Spaniard has already begun looking at potential incomings for the Etihad side, with Arteta, according to the Times, believed to be top of that coaching list.

The 33-year-old is good friends with Arteta and the midfielder recently visited the ex-Barcelona midfielder at Bayern Munich’s Sabener Strasse training complex.

Arteta has already begun taking his initial steps towards coaching, having worked with the Arsenal under-13s and Wales under-16s over the last year.

Arsenal’s captain has had a troubled recent couple of seasons in north London, with recurring fitness issues leaving Wenger with little to no choice but to allow Arteta to leave.
