Arsenal legend Paul Merson has predicted that his former side will beat Hull City in the FA Cup fifth round.
The Gunners take on Steve Bruce’s Championship outfit on Saturday afternoon, with aspirations of winning their third FA Cup trophy in a row – an unprecedented feat in modern day football.
With the game being played at the Emirates Stadium, the home side go into the game as clear favourites to advance to the next round of the competition, having beaten both Burnley and Sunderland in the previous rounds of the competition – both in north London.
With the Tigers harbouring aspirations for Premier League promotion, Merson, in his weekly Sky Sports prediction column, confirmed his belief that the Championship side should not think about any other goal than getting back to the summit of football.
Both clubs could take their eye off the ball here. Arsenal face Barcelona and Manchester United next while Hull City need to be back in the Premier League – there’s no point getting to the FA Cup final and then miss out on promotion. This looks a similar game to Arsenal’s fourth-round clash against Burnley – it’s a good draw for the Gunners. Hull really could do without this game.
Arsenal have met Hull in the previous two seasons of the FA Cup, most recently in the third round, where they comfortably won 2-0 at the Emirates.
