# Giroud – Striker transfer talk motivates me to perform

Arsenal centre forward Olivier Giroud has admitted that talk of other strikers being linked with the club is what motivates him to keep on performing.

For most transfer windows gone by, countless names of strikers have been linked with the north London club, including the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Karim Benzema, although moves for both failed to materialise.

Giroud is in good form ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Hull City at the Emirates Stadium but is without a goal in over a month.

Speaking in the [February 2016 edition of the *Arsenal Magazine*](https://www.arsenal.com/news/features/20160211/-consistency-is-my-target-), the Frenchman described what it is that motivates him most when on the football pitch.

> *Obviously, it helps to motivate you because when you are in your comfort zone, I think you maybe don’t give your best.*
>
> *So it helps sometimes to have speculation like that, to prove that you deserve your place in the team.*
>
> *In every single transfer period, there is some other striker’s name coming out as a possible new signing. You have to deal with that and keep focused on the team and to help the team try to win every single game.*
>
> *You have to give your best and that’s what I tried to do. I’m pleased with my first half of the season so far.*

It’s not certain whether the experienced 29-year-old striker will play a part in Arsenal’s game against the Tigers, with the visit of last season’s La Liga and UEFA Champions League victors Barcelona to contend on Tuesday evening.
