Szczesny could spend another season away from Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could be spending at least another year on loan at Roma, whilst he decides his long-term future.

The Polish international has been a first-team regular all season with both former boss, Rudi Garcia and new boss, Luciano Spalleti. The Express report that Szczesny will make his move permanent to the Italian side in the summer.

However, the head of the Polish FA, Zibi Boniek, admitted his beliefs to Centro Suono Sport that the Arsenal ‘keeper has ambitions to return to the club and compete for a first team spot with current number one, Petr Cech.

I never meddle with the careers of the national team players, so I do not want to talk much about Szczesny’s future.

Every time I spoke with him he told me that he is happy in the Italian capital, his only thought is to do well with Roma and move forward with them in the Champions League.

I know for a fact that if he is not bought by Roma his dream is to return to Arsenal as their number one goalkeeper.

With Petr Cech having such a good season with the Gunners so far, it is, however, hard to see Szczesny pushing him out of the way, therefore, the ‘keeper may have to re-consider his options and move away.

Cech is already doing well, so it is difficult to guess.

Many Premier League clubs are also interested, but there might be another year on loan at Roma for him, perhaps after signing an extension with Arsenal.

With other clubs reportedly seeking the out-of-favour Arsenal goalkeeper, Roma may face a fight on their hands should they choose to try and keep the 25-year-old on their books.
