Long-term Arsenal target William Carvalho has potentially ended all speculation linking him with a move away from Sporting CP, after signing a new contract extension with the club.
The deal will keep him at the Portuguese giants until at least 2020, unless another side meets his buy-out clause, which the club confirmed comes in at no less than €45m.

Arsenal had been reported to be long-term admirers of Carvalho’s talents and were supposedly firming up interest for his services in the summer. However, with the emergence of Francis Coquelin last summer, it appears that Arsene Wenger is more than confident in his talents and decided not to add further depth to the midfield.

While the 23-year-old signing a new contract with Sporting CP means he has committed his future to the club, if Arsenal, or another side, see fit to splash the cash, Carvalho could be prised away in what would be a mega deal.
It’s believed that the Gunners were put off by Carvalho’s broken tibia in the summer, which kept him out for a number of months.

Since recovering from the injury, Carvalho has made 22 appearances, scoring twice.
