Giroud – We are in a strong position and can win the league

Arsenal centre forward Olivier Giroud is confident that his goals can help the side to win their first Premier League title in 12 seasons.

The Gunners have dropped down to fourth place in England’s top division and are without a goal in three games, hurting their chances of potentially winning the prised competition.

Despite the precarious position the north London side find themselves in, the Frenchman, speaking to ArsenalFan TV, admitted he is confident in himself and admitted that having already scored 12 goals in the league, he can go on to bag at least 20 in the league alone.

To be honest, I’m targeting around 20 goals in the league, so with the other competitions, the [UEFA] Champions League, and the cup, hopefully between 25 and 30, that’s the target.

I want to help the team reach our target, which is the title. We keep the faith, we keep working and I believe that I can reach this [personal] target.

The Frenchman then went on to claim that although the Gunners have indeed fallen behind the likes of Leicester City and Manchester City in the race to win the league, they can still recover their position because there is still a long way to go, with Arsenal still dominating games, despite the lack of goals.

We are still in a strong position, as the boss said. We were a bit unlucky to draw in Liverpool, Stoke was a tough game, Chelsea, we didn’t get the chance to finish the game 11 vs. 11 and it was a bit frustrating for me individually, so I really wanted to bounce back with the team [against Southampton] but it’s like that [in football], you have to stay positive.

We can still reach Leicester and Manchester City if we beat Bournemouth because they play each other and then after we play Leicester and we have a huge February and March to go, so we still have time.

Arsenal will look to get back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon when they take Bournemouth on at the Vitality Stadium.
