Bellerin discusses ‘excitement’ of facing Barcelona

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has spoken of his excitement at facing Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

The north London side drew the defending European champions in the round of 16, and will face them in February, attempting to win the giant competition for the first time in their history.

Bellerin played for Barcelona for eight years before joining Arsenal at the tender age of 16 and after a short loan spell at then Championship side Watford, has come on leaps and bounds in his career at just the age of 20.

The Spaniard has played over 50 times for the Gunners and admitted in an interview with Amuse that he is ‘excited’ to face the side that he most famously started his career with.

[I’m] excited. My family as well! I played for Barcelona for eight years, so it’s a massive thing for me and my family, who have been watching me since I was young.

The day the draw was announced I started getting texts and calls from everyone. It’s crazy how a game moves so many people.

We’re very excited – it’s going to be a hard game, but if we did it against Bayern, then we can do it against Barcelona.

We have a great team mentality and our confidence is very high, so we fancy anyone at the moment.

Bellerin will likely start for the Gunners in their game against the Blaugrana, with his place in the starting XI assured over Mathieu Debuchy, who is believed to be on his way out of the club in the coming days.
