Arsene Wenger has claimed that star playmaker Mesut Ozil has a big influence in the dressing room.
When speaking to Arsenal Player, as reported by the club’s official website, ahead of the Gunners’ clash with London rivals Chelsea, Wenger explained what the German midfielder is like in the dressing room and even compared him to a former Invincible and Arsenal legend.
Twitter: Mesut Özil has created 57% of Arsenal’s 33 goals in the Premier League this season (16 assists, 3 goals). (@MesutOzilStats)
Yes, he’s a bit like [Bergkamp]. Not that guy who stands up and speaks too much but every time he says something, it is straight to the point. He’s has a big influence. He’s not an extrovert, as you know. But you don’t win by coincidence and he has won in his career. He’s demanding from his partners.
Wenger also said that centre-back Per Mertesacker is an important character in the dressing room, and his impact on the players is helpful.

Per is [also] very important in that. He’s a very important leader in the dressing room – and a respected one as well. He maintains focus and wants to do well. He’s one of the guys who can help us
Ozil has bagged himself 16 Premier League assists this campaign, more than any other player in Europe’s top five divisions, while bagging himself three goals.
Arsenal currently sit third in the Premier League, however, have a game in hand over leaders Leicester City and second-placed Manchester City. They have a home clash with Chelsea on Sunday, as Guus Hiddink’s side look to improve on their thus far woeful campaign.
