# Arsenal target Inaki Williams signs new contract

Reported Arsenal and Liverpool target Inaki Williams has signed a new long-term contract with current side Athletic Club.

Williams, who has been one of La Liga’s top stars this season, is highly sought after and [it had been reported that both Arsenal and the Reds were interested](https://readarsenal.com/2016/01/15/arsenal-rival-liverpool-la-ligas-fastest-player/) in bringing him to the Premier League.

However, the 21-year-old opted to remain with his current side, signing a five-year contract which now boasts a release clause of no less than £38m.

The high release clause signals Athletic’s intent to keep the Spain under-21 international, with them unlikely to sell Williams for much less than the figure required, unless he personally requests a move away.

In his previous contract, Williams was available for just £15.3m, meaning both the Gunners and Liverpool could have cashed in on a player whose potential could soar in the coming years.
