Zelalem explains Arsenal ambitions

Promising Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem has, speaking to his loan club’s official site, recently revealed that he intends to follow in the footsteps of fellow starlet Hector Bellerin in the near future as in regards to breaking into the Gunners’ first-team set-up.

Ideally I’d go back to Arsenal in the summer and break through into the first team, the same as Hector Bellerin, who’s done fantastically and is now established as the number one right back, so that is my target.

Zelalem has been on loan at Rangers this season and has made an impression during his short tenure at the club so far. The USA under-23 international has made a highly impressive 18 appearances for Rangers so far this campaign and has proved to be an integral part of the Scottish giants’ side.

I spoke to a few people at Arsenal and they asked me if I was happy, which I was, and Arsenal were happy with it all too. They text me if they’re going to be at our game and check how I’m doing, I suppose it’s like all clubs with loan players but it’s nice they stay in touch.

The 18-year-old is hopeful that he can replicate Bellerin’s success in the recent years by finding a way into Arsene Wenger’s plans ahead of next season but is fully aware that there is a big challenge ahead of him.

I still have the same ambitions as when I first came to Rangers; to be the best I can be, to be a first-team player at Arsenal and be a USA international.

However, as big a challenge as the dizzy heights of the Premier League can be for young players, Zelalemlooks to have the ideal talent, desire and drive to become a regular for the Gunners.
