# Gibbs – Where Liverpool game will be won and lost

Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs believes that Wednesday night’s important Premier League fixture against Liverpool will be won and lost in the battle of possession.

Both sides enjoy dominating the ball – although the Gunners have, under Arsene Wenger in the last 18 months, begun to adjust to sitting back and soaking up pressure before striking on the counter attack – and Gibbs [believes the magnitude of Wednesday evening’s game](https://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20160112/gibbs-where-game-will-be-won-or-lost)will make it a tight affair.

> *They are a team that likes to keep possession and so are we.*
>
> *The game is going to be won on who can dominate and we need to dominate every match we play. I think it is going to be a tight game and \[because\] every game is so tight it is hard to predict the results because it is so up and down.*
>
> *There are not many teams who can beat us. Liverpool is a great club and their fans and stadium are great. It is going to be a hard game – they have a new manager who has come in and improved their team.*
>
> *He is quite young and a modern-day manager and has given Liverpool a lift this season.*
>
> *But we are on a run of some big results and the team is really confident at the moment.* Hopefully *we can show that.*

It’s likely the 26-year-old will begin the game from the bench, with his rival Nacho Monreal the much more in form and stellar choice on the left of what has been an impressive back four this campaign.

Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday evening, with the Gunners having the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League by five points, should both Leicester City and Manchester City fail to get a result in their respective games.
