Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Nacho Monreal is close to signing a new contract with the club.
The Spanish left-back has been an integral member of the Arsenal squad over the last 18 months and has been touted by many as the ‘most improved’ play in the Premier League.
With his contract due to end in the summer of 2017 and many sides interested in his signature, including the likes of Athletic Bilbao, Wenger has moved quickly to extend the 29-year-old’s current deal.
The Frenchman, as reported by the Daily Star, admitted the negotiations are almost over the line.

Yes, Nacho is getting a new contract.
It’s not completely over the line yet but we’re not far away.

Monreal has played in every single Arsenal game in the Premier League this season, starting all but one – a fixture he was rested for against Bournemouth, although he came on in the latter stages of the game to shore up the defence.
The former Malaga defender will be expected to start on Wednesday evening when the Gunners travel to Liverpool to face Jurgen Klopp’s side.
