# Wenger explains why he enjoys busy schedule

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has claimed that a busy, more congested fixture list is better than if his side were involved in little-to-no competitions.

In the coming months, the Gunners will have to contend in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 against Barcelona, defend their FA Cup trophy for the third season in a row, all the while attempting to win their first Premier League title since the Invincibles squad of 2003/04.

With potentially a huge number of games to think about and already so many injuries in the squad to the likes of Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Tomas Rosicky as well as others, concerns have been expressed.

Many have called for a winter break to be introduced in the Premier League in order to compete in the latter stages of the season on a more competitive level.

Wenger, however, [claims that he would rather a busy fixture list](https://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20160109/boss-busy-schedule-gives-you-rhythm), as it allows for rhythm, as reported by the club’s official website.

> *You have a rhythm \[when you have a lot of games\].You try to check who needs a breather and who needs a rest and you do it. It is easier to keep the squad focused and motivated when you have many games.*

>
> *It has both a positive and negative impact. When you are on a roll and have no injuries everyone is in the same direction and it is easier to keep everyone on board. Everyone in the next competition thinks they have to play, and that is a positive.*
>
> *There* is *fatigue and injuries at the end of the season but you can’t say we are not a big club and that we can’t go for the big competitions, that is important.*
>
> *Bayern Munich* go *for the cup every year, Barcelona or Real Madrid go for the cup every year. Why? Because they are big clubs and you cannot say we won’t move out of a cup competition or national cup competition \[and do well\].*

After defeating Sunderland in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday, the Gunners travel to Liverpool to face Jurgen Klopp’s side on Wednesday before making the trip to the Britannia just four days later, where they face in-form Stoke City.
