Arsenal could welcome Alexis back for FA Cup tie
After a few weeks out with an injury, Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez could return against Sunderland in the FA Cup this weekend, as reported by the Telegraph. The Chilean picked up the injury against Norwich in 1-1 draw in November.
The return from injury comes at a perfect time for Arsenal, with the congested Christmas fixture period just above over. The wing positions have lacked real threat as of late, and Alexis Sanchez would be ideal in supplementing both Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal will need as many players back as quickly as possible, in order to sustain their title push. Furthermore, the FA Cup game this weekend would serve as an ideal opportunity to give the Chilean some valuable game time with a trip to Liverpool coming up next Wednesday.
Aside from Alexis, Arsenal will still be without Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta – both having only just recently returned to training. Francis Coquelin is also out but is expected to make a return in February.
The Premier League is the priority for Arsenal this year. After having won two successive FA Cups, Wenger now has his sights set on his first league title since 2004. It is expected that he will rest many of the other first team players this weekend and he prepares for the crucial second half of the season.
