Cech discusses highlights of 2015

Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech has revealed the moments of the past year that he believes to be his personal highlights in a recent interview with Arsenal Player.

It has certainly been an eventful year for the experienced shot-stopper, following his move from Chelsea after an incredibly successful 11-year spell at the reigning champions. However, Cech decided to seek pastures new and found his way to the other side of London in the form of rivals Arsenal in a £10 million summer transfer.

The 33-year-old also enjoyed a hugely successful year with his country, as he helped Czech Republic to secure their place in next summer’s Euro 2016 in France.

We qualified as a nation for another European Championship. For a small team like the Czech Republic, we haven’t missed it since 1996 – it is an absolutely amazing achievement. We were changing the generations and we still managed to qualify.

However, what Cech may be the most satisfied with when he looks back on the past year is his recent form with the Gunners, helping them climb to the top of the table heading into 2016.

On a personal level, I am happy with the way I kept my level of performance going. The transition from Chelsea to Arsenal, this made me happy as well as I think when you make such an important decision you always wish that it works out for you.

The way everything happened for me is exactly the way I wished, so I can be happy with this. The fact that I stayed fit and I was able to train and play a part in the little minor things is important because your body is the working tool and you need to be fit to play the best way.

Cech reiterated his intentions to win silverware in his first full year with the club, as the Czech international sets his sights on the club’s first Premier League title win since 2004.

My personal [goal for next year] is the same as the team’s. I’m a team player and there are team trophies ahead. Winning the league plus another competition – it could be the FA Cup or the Champions League, whatever – that would be a brilliant year for us. Hopefully we can achieve that in 2016.
