Mohamed Elneny will become the first outfield signing of the season, if and when the midfielder completes a £5 million move in the next couple of days.
The 23-year-old is set to sign a £60,000-a-week four-and-a-half year deal from Swiss side FC Basel.
It is a typical Arsene Wenger purchase, with the player being a relative unknown, cheap and young with room for development.
Crucially, he will provide cover for a desperate area of the field which the Gunners are light of options in.
