Following Arsenal’s 2-0 home victory over newly-promoted Bournemouth, experienced ‘keeper Petr Cech has admitted his pride in breaking the all-time Barclays Premier League clean sheet record.
The Gunners were dominant in the game which saw the north London side claim first place in the league table and the veteran shot-stopper claimed his 170th Premier League clean sheet, making a vital save late on in the game to preserve his clean sheet.
Cech told Arsenal Player that he was pleased to have reached the milestone and was proud to have achieved it in the Barclays Premier League – which he argues is the best in the world.

I must say at the end of the game I was proud. It is not every day you break the record of the best league in the world.
The Czech international went on to suggest that bouncing back from the defeat against Southampton was equally important to him and was impressed by his side’s performance in the game.
I must say at the end of the game I was proud. It is not every day you break the record of the best league in the world. I was really pleased we won the game as well because after the game we had at Southampton we had to bounce back in style.
Overall we had a good performance and near the end, in the last five or 10 minutes, I started to check the clock as you start to think, ‘Okay, that is the game and you need to see it through and not concede’ and we did well not to.
We concentrated until the last second because if even if you concede in the last three minutes then there is added time then it can be a very long five minutes. There can be a mistake and then you can lose the game and you need to concentrate from the start to the finish.
Cech added that staying focused and professional was vital for Arsenal in their success against the Cherries.

It cannot be easy sometimes when you are in control and you are 2-0 up and the opposition is pushing for that goal. You have to make sure you are professional, organised and do the right things and today we knew how to do it.
With the win against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth secured, the Gunners look set to go into the New Year at the peak of the Premier League table and this feat is down, in no small part, to Cech’s heroic performances since his transfer to the Emirates in the summer.
