Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has admitted that the Gunners made one too many sloppy mistakes defensively in their 4-0 loss to Southampton on Saturday evening.
The Gunners went 1-0 down to an unstoppable strike from right back Cuco Martina, an effort the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini should have closed down before the Dutchman smashed the ball into the back of the net.
It was 2-0 soon into the second period, with a controversial slip from Laurent Koscielny allowing Shane Long in on goal, who finished with ease beyond Petr Cech. The game was then wrapped up when a towering Jose Fonte met Ryan Bertrand’s corner and smashed it in with his head beyond the awaiting Arsenal ‘keeper.

Insult to injury was added when Long added his second of the game, firing the ball low and hard through Cech’s legs, wrapping up an impressive three points for the home side.
The game was full of calamitous mistakes but Arsenal’s no.1 believes they must fight back on Monday to prove their credentials.

We had a game where nothing was really happening for us and everything was happening for them.If you look at the number of shots they had – they had one in the first half and they scored a goal.
If you look at the number of shots they had – they had one in the first half and they scored a goal.
In the second half both goals were practically the same. They had two shots and they put them in. Obviously when you play against a team which has this type of efficiency in front of goal then it is difficult to win games.
Our performance was not as we wanted but that’s football – especially in the Premier League. When you have a day like that and you don’t find your way it is very difficult to win.
We made more mistakes and with the possession we had in the second half we didn’t seem to find the right passes at the right time. We lacked efficiency. Football is about scoring goals and we couldn’t find our chances today and we got punished for it.
The positive thing is there is a game on Monday and we will be ready to bounce back.

The Gunners face Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium on Monday afternoon, followed by the visit of Newcastle United – two games which the home side will be expected to gain maximum points from.
