My game hasn’t changed – Ozil

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has insisted that it is not his playing style that has caused an increased amount of assists for the German this season, but the team-mates around him.

Ozil has spoken of how his team-mates are now starting to convert the wealth of chances that he is creating for them, as he boasts an incredible record of 13 assists in just 16 Premier League appearances this season so far.

The German midfielder set up just nine goals in his first year at the Emirates and was restricted for playing time due to numerous injury setbacks last season, creating just five goals.

However, Ozil does not believe that it is him that has changed; he believes that his team-mates are becoming more and more clinical with his support.

Our forwards now convert my assists. You have to put the numbers into perspective. I’ve also played a lot of good final passes in the last two seasons, but nobody converted them. This year, our attackers turn my assists into goals, and those assists appear in the stats.

Ozil has been under criticism regarding his lack of goals and greed when in good positions, as it is clear that the German prefers to turn provider as opposed to finisher.

My game has not changed and it will not change because people argue that I should be more clinical and score more goals.

The 27-year-old will be hoping to carry forward his good form into tonight’s clash with Manchester City.
